Looking forward to hearing from you!
Our meetings are normally the third Monday of the month and we run them year-round.
The CGL was formed to unite young girls together where they can learn special skills in a safe environment. Every month our meetings are based on a different one of our four pillars. They are Faith, Friendship, Fun, and Formation. The meetings start and end with a prayer. They also start with a short (~10 minute) meeting that will be run by an executive made up of the girls. This will teach the girls leadership. After the meeting we will then move on to our activity. Depending of the theme for that month, we could have a craft, a quest or a discussion on how to accomplish something. An example of this is how the CGL can support the Humane Society. The girls would come up with ways to accomplish that goal.
We have special extra activities as well such as helping out the CWL and Knights with their Coffee Break after the 9 a.m. mass at St. Benedict's and any other charitable functions that the girls are asked to participate in. We also plan a special outing every summer and we plan a visit to the Humane Society after we have asked the churches to donate items that we can bring to the Society.
We have our own executive that is made up of the girls. We have members of the CWL who are leaders and have experience with the various executive memberships and are able to mentor the CGL executive in their positions.
Motto: Faith, Friendship, Fun, and Formation!
Patroness: The Blessed Virgin Mary under the title of Our Lady of Good Counsel
Sponsor: St. Benedict's Catholic Women's League Council
Membership Qualifications: Any girl starting at aged 10.
Membership Fee: There is a $5 annual fee:
Counselors and their Duties: These are members of the CWL. They are required to have police check that are kept at the chuch. Their duties include: Guide and direct all activites of the CGL; Collaborate with CGL officers; Report regularly to the sponsoring CWL; Obtain Parental/Guardian permission in writing for all activites outside of regular meeting times and any publicity.
Religious Leader: Priest or Deacon - The religious leader shall: provide spiritual guidance to the counselors and members; install the officers and counselors. Normally the Priest or Deacon will occasionally stop in and say hello to the girls and give them a blessing if they are in the area.
For more information please contact ~Jackie Detailleur
She has been a member since she was 8 years old and loves the socialization and crafts she gets to do with the CGL. When our meetings were shut down and we were unable to deliver a thank you card to the Sarnia Humane Society, as soon as some of the restrictions lifted, She willingly agreed to represent the CGL and accompany me to the Humane Society and deliver the Thank you card that was signed by all the girls for the tour of the Humane Society and the afternoon playing with the kittens. She also helped me deliver donations to them as well and got her picture taken and posted on their website.
The shirt she is wearing is the CGL shirt. Each girl gets to make their own tie-dyed shirt and then we iron-on our logo on the sleeves.
